Download Report

Just a couple of days ago I asked OneBookShelf to reactivate the Stargazer Games publisher account. Since then the Stargazer Games products have been downloaded 1881 times. I am positively surprised that even after all those years the interest in the games is still very high. Here is a more detailed report:

Some Notes on the WR&M SRD and the New License

Yesterday I released the Warrior, Rogue & Mage System Reference Document under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. So what exactly does that mean and how can fans of the system make use of the SRD?

The new license and the SRD make creating WR&M derivatives much easier. You can directly copy and paste text from the SRD and use it in your own materials. Copying text from a PDF is often a bit of a hassle. I also plan to expand on the SRD in the future. I might add more rules (I’ll definitely add the advanced combat rules from “The Art of Combat” at some point) and some designers notes. This will give you an insight on what I thought when I created the rules.

I also added a few lines to the SRD that explain what you need to do if you want to make use of the WR&M SRD. There’s a short text paragraph you can copy from the SRD and paste it into your document – and you’re done. The original license wasn’t that much harder to understand, but some things were at least a bit unclear. What is commercial use? May I have advertisement on my site when I want to put WR&M material there? What does “Share Alike” mean? The move to attribution-only takes some control over my work from me, but that’s ok.

I also highly recommend that you actually use the SRD and not the original PDF releases of the game if you plan to release WR&M-related material. While the SRD contains most of the stuff from the original PDF, there are a few things I left out. The forewords didn’t make that much sense in a SRD, so you find them in there. But I also removed the setting information, too. For one I don’t think setting stuff belongs into a SRD, and secondly I want to retain a bit more control of the setting itself. Please note that the supplemental material written by Brian Brousseau, Colin Chapman, Andrew Modro, and me are not part of the SRD which means this material is still covered under the original license. So if you’re in doubt ask me or the original author, or just use what you find in the SRD.
